Push-Up Bras for Small Busts: A & B Cup Guide
How to Choose a Push-Up Bra for Small Busts (A & B Cups)
A push-up bra for an A or B cup has a different job than one for a fuller bust. You want shape and a little lift without cups that gape, wrinkle or stand away from your chest. Here's what to look for, and how to get the size right.
1. Pick the right padding
- Graduated or "push-up" padding is thicker at the bottom and sides of the cup. It moves tissue up and in, which is what creates cleavage on a smaller bust.
- Thin molded cups give a smooth, rounded shape without much added volume. Good for everyday T-shirts.
- Removable pads let you choose: wear them for a fuller look, take them out for a natural one. If a pad leaves a gap at the top of the cup, try the bra without it.
2. Choose a cup shape that sits flat
- Balconette and half-cup styles have a lower, wider neckline. They're often the best fit for A cups because there's less empty cup fabric at the top.
- Plunge styles have a deep center and angled cups. They create cleavage under V-necks.
- Full-coverage cups can gape on smaller busts. If you like the coverage, choose a seamless or stretch style that follows your shape.
3. Wire or wire-free?
Underwire holds the cup's shape and keeps padding in place, so it usually gives the most dramatic lift. Wire-free push-ups are softer and easier to wear all day; look for molded or padded cups and a firm band to keep the shape.
4. Get the band right first
Most of the support comes from the band, not the straps. It should sit level and snug around your ribcage. If the band rides up at the back, it's too loose and the cups won't stay in place. Measure yourself with our bra size chart; if a style uses EU/Asian sizes like 70A or 75B, the chart shows the US conversion (70A = 32A, 75B = 34B).
5. Fit check in the mirror
- Gaps at the top of the cup: try a smaller cup, a balconette shape, or remove the pads.
- Center sits away from your chest: the cups may be too big, or the shape is too deep for you.
- Straps slipping: tighten them, or look for a narrower strap set.
